A minor milestone: with this poem, we finish sourcing Part I of The Valley of Vision, subtitled “Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.” Next we’ll be moving into Part II, “Redemption and Reconciliation.” Probably not much will change. But wouldn’t it be neat if it did?
Also of note: we appear to have a new source here, albeit one that is listed in Bennett’s bibliography—William Romaine’s A Treatise upon the Walk of Faith. Unfortunately, the 1819 edition that Bennett cites does not appear to be available, at least to me, so I’ve opted to refer to the most recent preceding edition before it: this one from 1809.
I’ve not met Romaine before (except in a Caesar salad). Obligatory observation, though: still not technically a Puritan.
Regardless, this poem comes from the prayers at the ends of chapters 1 and 2 of Romaine’s work:
See you again soon.
